A+ CPRS Student Membership
Membership with the CPRS Ottawa/Gatineau Student Program is an important step in developing your career. It indicates to prospective employers that you take your role in PR and communications seriously and that you are committed to life-long learning in your chosen field.
The CPRS Ottawa/Gatineau Student Program represents students from the four Ottawa-area colleges and universities – Algonquin College, Carleton University, La Cité Collégiale, the University of Ottawa – and beyond. In these challenging times, where students need to be innovative about their career planning strategies, our role is to help facilitate your development from student to professional.
What are the benefits of becoming a student member?
Reduced membership fees
Undergraduate
The fee for students registered in a full or part-time PR and/or communications-related program is $50. This covers membership from September to June annually.
Postgraduate
The first year after you graduate is still only $50 – a savings of more than $400 off the full CPRS membership fee. But this post-graduate fee is only available to former CPRS student members. So in order to qualify for that rate, you must be a CPRS student member by June 30th of your graduating year.
Networking and development sessions
CPRS Ottawa/Gatineau has an ambitious student program, offering targeted events that allow you to network with senior communicators from the National Capital Region. This is your opportunity to meet PR and communications professionals; get advice; exchange ideas; expand your networks; and build relationships that will enhance your job-search prospects.

Volunteer opportunities
Tapping into our dynamic relationships with professionals and organizations across Ottawa, the CPRS Ottawa/Gatineau Student Program will promote student volunteer opportunities. As a student member, you will have direct access to these volunteer openings that allow you to demonstrate your work ethics and communicate your result-oriented brand to industry leaders and potential employers.
Student leadership positions
Represent the students in your program on the CPRS Ottawa/Gatineau Student Communication Council (SCC) and develop and showcase your leadership skills. Student leaders work with the CPRS Student Program director to create opportunities to enhance the experiences of all CPRS student members.
Sponsorship for student–led networking events
CPRS Ottawa/Gatineau will sponsor one networking event/activity to be organized by student members attending each of the four Ottawa-area colleges and universities – Algonquin College, La Cité Collégiale, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa.
