Third Tuesday Ottawa: Movember, a social movement, a social media movement, a real world good cause

Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 6:00 PM
Hard Rock Cafe
73 York St., Ottawa, ON
Admission Fee: $10.00/per person (Refund policy)

Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate, with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.

Movember Canada National Director Peter Bombaci will be our Third Tuesday speaker this month.

Hear the story behind what inspired Movember, and the role of public relations and social media in helping to spread its Australian beginnings into a global movement. Movember Canada membership grew from 35,000 to nearly 199,000, and donations increased by 280%, to $23 million, good for #2 in the world. It’s truly a case study of building an online community to do public good, across borders, across time zones, across oceans.

By attending, you’re making a contribution

All admission fees for this Third Tuesday will be contributed to Movember.
